Il mistero della racchetta perduta - Ping-Pong | by Enzo Pettinelli April 26, 2012 | $0.99 | 5862 words | Sample 30% |
| Author bio: Enzo Pettinelli at 8 years old begins to play ping-pong in the parish church of San Martino, in Senigallia. When playing double matches with his twin brother Giovanni as a partner, they are invincible. Enzo, like all children, plays football, volleyball, swims, skates. In skating he is 4th at the National Championship. When he is older he dedicates himself to ping-pong, right up to the National championship of B division. Then he feels that ping-pong can be played in a different way. He is fascinated by the musicality of the rhythm and by the beauty of the technical gesture. He leaves the agonistic activity and dedicates his time teaching this Sport. Three young lyceum students follow him: one of them, Domenico Ubaldi, will become later the President of “Tennistavolo Senigalliaâ€, a club founded by them in 1959 and in 2010 rewarded by the CONI with the Gold Star for Sports merit. The first Italian titles arrive. For the 100th anniversary of the reunification of Italy, two youngsters of Pettinelli’s school are called to join the national team at the International exhibition in Tourin in 1961. After this event the parish priest of San Martino, Father Giuliano Grassi, covers the courtyard and creates a little gymnasium. A sales representative of sport equipment, Neri Ravini, accidentally sees the gymnasium, he gets touched by seeing so many little children around just one “rickety†table, and gives 3 bright new tables as a gift. The game, based on aesthetic beauty and on musicality, gives more incentive and new Italian titles. A sponsor, Otello Montesi, gives economic help, without asking nothing back. The results come and bring the Club at the first place in Italy. The school, already opened, opens further, and receives players from all Italy. Including players that play or have played against each other . Pettinelli will be many times the Italian National team’s coach, coach of the Republic of San Marino. Honorary Member of the Republic of Malta, for the given collaboration. Among his pupils we remember: Costantini, record of presence with the National team; Moretti, Cardinali and Ricci that will be many times at the World Championship, European Championship and at the Mediterranean Games. The work and passion of this “Great Teacher†for ping-pong, has inspired the film director Claudio Colombo that has realized a feature film, “Shotâ€, already winner at two festivals, dedicated to him. Among the actors we remember Enrico Beruschi, that has skilfully interpreted Enzo Pettinelli’s part. ITALIANO: Enzo Pettinelli a 8 anni inizia a giocare a ping-pong nella parrocchia di San Martino, nella città di Senigallia. Nelle partite di doppio in coppia con il fratello gemello Giovanni, sono imbattibili. Enzo, come tutti i bambini, gioca a calcio, pallavolo, nuota, pattina. Arrivano i primi titoli italiani. |

A damaged boy | by Alex Burrett April 21, 2012 | $3.99 | 158285 words | Sample 20% |
| Author bio: Alex Burrett grew up in South Wales near Wordsworth’s Tintern Abbey. He’s been writing creative material since single figures. (Saying that, don’t most of us write creative material when we’re in single figures?) Work and leisure have taken him around a fair bit of Britain and Western Europe, over to the US a handful of times – with a couple of trips to the Eastern Mediterranean thrown in for good measure. In that time he’s scaled and fallen off cliff faces, played and got scared in fresh and salt water, loved, hated, got confused, inebriated, depressed and had moments of extraordinarily blinding clarity. His proudest boast is to be married to a magnificent woman and have four fantastic children. ‘A damaged boy’ is Alex Burrett’s follow-up collection of short fiction to ‘My Goat Ate Its Own Legs’. His second novel ‘Outstared by a Bullfrog’ will be published as an ebook in the second half of 2012. His first novel ‘The Titans’ was completed in 1991 and remains under wraps. His poetry collection ‘Fedw’ will be released as an ebook in 2012/2013. |

Carl’s Hat Wins Marathon: a short story | by Jeff Posey April 20, 2012 | $0.99 | 4642 words | Sample 30% |
| Author bio: “Where did these rocks come from?†asked the geology professor. The fifty or so students ambling among the pile of stones at the bottom of the hill offered answers in tentative voices: a Precambrian ocean, an ancient river, the continental shelf …. The professor shouted “No!†to each answer. Then a skinny, prematurely balding student pointed at the top of the hill with his rock hammer and said in a ringing voice, “They come from up there!†“Exactly!†boomed the professor. That skinny boy was me. I’ve always had a flair for pointing out the embarrassingly obvious. Friends and colleagues say I have a gift for explanation, clarification, synthesis. I’m also fascinated by darned near everything. Which explains why I: Have a geology degree, nearly earned a degree in biology, nearly earned a master’s degree in journalism, spent a decade as a magazine writer and editor, did five-and-a-half-years of night school to get a master’s degree in financial analysis (of all things), and once tried my hand as an independent financial consultant. I like challenges. If I feel ignorant about something, that motivates me to figure it out. My work credits include: DFW Writers’ Conference, for which I was Director in 2011 Founder and sole member of Jeff Posey Enterprises LLC, the business entity for both my Author and Corporate work Javelin Marketing Group, where I labored on more than 80 pitches to prospective clients and placed nearly 50 stories in the trade press Carter & Burgess Inc. (now Jacobs Engineering Group Inc.), where I managed external and internal communications Free Range Communications Group Inc., a marketing/communications company I founded and managed for five years VHA Inc., where I started up and managed a book-publishing division American Way magazine where I managed more than fifty freelance writers and started up a fiction section D Magazine, where as City Editor covering Dallas politics I learned over and over that nothing is as it seems Sun Exploration and Production Co., where I looked for (and found) oil and gas deposits The University of Dallas and Fun/Ed Inc., where I taught people how to write fiction Along the way, I’ve earned an award for investigative magazine journalism, gathered more than a dozen speaking awards with Toastmasters International, and published about a half-dozen short stories with small literary magazines. |

W Polsce | by Tadeusz Korzeniewski April 19, 2012 | $3.00 | 34428 words | Sample 5% |
| Author bio: I was born in Poland. My book "W Polsce" (In Poland) was published in Warsaw by the anti-Communist underground in 1981. It won the Koscielski Award and was recently ranked by Newsweek Poland as one of the Polish books of the century. In 1981 I moved from Poland to France and then on to New York then Montana and then Seattle. Of the many gigs I have done for living in America, I value the most guarding as a security this pic: http://0.tqn.com/d/arthistory/1/0/j/f/pa_neh_06.jpg In 1990 I wrote "Lubark," a novella in English, for which I received a fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts. In 1991 the Ucross Foundation invited me to Wyoming. Afterwards, I spent seven years living in the American West. "The American Epiphany" comes from this experience. |
