| Author bio: Now I understand why my muse waited until I was 50 before giving me the nod. Mainstream publishers would never have touched the stuff I write. Years of humiliation and disappointment might have been too much for me to bear, and maybe I would have succumbed to full-blown alcoholism and drug addiction, and ended up by committing suicide. To save me from such a fate my muse held back until technology advanced to the point where I could safely sidestep those obscurantist gatekeepers trying to prevent me from getting to my readers. Now I can write what I like, put it up on Smashwords, and share the contents of my mind with anyone discerning enough to enjoy a certain brand of dark humour. |

The Character | by Tiffini Johnson May 13, 2010 | $4.99 | 62224 words | Sample 30% |
| Author bio: Everything about writing is something I love. I love the process of coming up with ideas, jotting them down into “summaries†and then exploring them. I love the way my recent books have challenged me to expand as an author. I love the way they make me think. Words are one of the most powerful things on earth because, through them, we have the ability to be understood. I am an author–I have been paid for my work–but I don’t consider writing a job. In fact, I’m amazed at the possibility someone would give me money just to read one of my novels when I’d be tickled pink to give it to him, free, just because it’s exciting to me to know that someone else is reading the words of my characters. Writing is a way of life for me. Every experience throughout every day of my life is a possible story, or blog. Mostly the issues I write about are not light hearted, they are not easy. Some are downright painful, in fact. But I hope they also serve a purpose. Obviously, I’m a writer. But that’s not all I am. I’m also a mother to two incredibly beautiful girls, Breathe and Alight, and my purpose in life, above writing, above anything, is to ensure they have the happiest, securest, safest childhood possible so that they might become confident women. My life’s joy resides in becoming their personal pet elephant who trumpets through the house with them on her back, or deciding that we should paint ourselves, from head to toe, in purple and yellow polka dot paint because–well, because we can! I love music, I love the water, I love rain, I love God and try very hard to make it known that it is for Him that I do anything good. I’m loyal to a fault but equally stubborn as well. I’m a conversationalist — I can talk all night. I’m an insominac who, at wee hours in the morning, contrives creative games and ideas for my girls and I to play the following day. I believe in never ending second chances, I believe in strangers. I love chocolate, but dislike salt. I am scared of weird things, like the man in the moon and bridges, but have a most unhealthy wild streak that makes me stare my fears in the face and conquer them by—-gasp—writing! My heart is heavily burdened with the emotional and psychological needs of the earth’s most heartbreaking of citizens: the abused and neglected children and teens. I cannot pass a hurting child without stopping and I think of them daily. Mostly, I believe that part of the reason we are all here is to build relationships with our friends, family and lovers because, after all, it is through our earthly relationships that we learn to cultivate and attend our spiritual relationship with God. I am just me, Tiffini, an imperfect soul who wakes up and goes to sleep and wonders how many more 24 hours there’s going to be before I stand before God Himself. I am--we all are---stories that matter. |

Einstein's Road Trip | by George Brinner May 10, 2010 | $4.95 | 89434 words | Sample 30% |
| Author bio: I paint pictures with orange skies and purple trees and write stories that explore the recesses of their character's minds-in a casual way. I own a little bar called Kahale's Beach Club in Kihei on the southern coast of Maui where I can take refreshment while the whales play. Maui has been home since I came to Hawaii by chance in the summer of nineteen seventy eight. One perk I have as an artist and writer is I can survive in one place about as well as any other, and so far I've found no place I would rather be. Occasionally my friends lounge in the shade of five palms that line the grassy knoll at the beach of Keawakapu - the Hawaiian word for forbidden harbor according to my bartender, Kimo Kuaana. They sip mai-tais and gin as they prattle on about this and that. Sometimes I join them, of course, but you may be more likely to find me in my studio a block away readying paintings for show or writing whatever comes to mind. |

The Driftwood Players production of Stilwell's Traffic Stop garnered two awards at the Kaleidoscope competition in 2007. DÃas de llamas | by Juan Iturralde May 08, 2010 | $4.63 | 180916 words | Sample 20% |

Hell and Gone | by Henry Brown May 06, 2010 | $1.99 | 83000 words | Sample 30% |
| Author bio: I've always been an action-adventure guy. Normal, well-adjusted people may have grown too mature for movies like Star Wars or The Road Warrior; or fictional heroes like Conan, Tarzan or Mack Bolan. Well, that stuff left a permanent mark on me. So much for being normal and well-adjusted! My own real-life adventure began as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division, at 18 years old. OK, maybe it wasn't such a great adventure, but I'm proud to have served my country, and in an elite unit with such battlefield distinctions. My military escapades eventually led me through experiences in other corners of the US Army, as well as the USMC and Naval Reserve. My travels in life have taken me to the Caribbean; Central America; the Middle East; Alaska; Hawaii and all over the USA. I've traveled on trains, planes, automobiles, helicopters and ocean-going vessels. I've been trained in the use of rifles; bayonets; hand grenades; automatic rifles; machineguns; grenade launchers; anti-tank rockets and missiles. I even got to play with artillery and tanks. I also had plenty of opportunity to observe the behavior of my fellow human beings at their best and worst. My debut novel, Hell and Gone, is a deliberate throwback to commando tales of yesteryear like The Dirty Dozen. While working on my next novel, I've released some shorter tales...pulp fiction, you could call it...in other genres that tickle my fancy. I'm only just getting started. Meanwhile, I blog about fiction, movies and other stuff. Thanks for stopping by and feel free to drop a line some time. Henry Brown |

Hans y las lluvias de Abril | by Juan Iturralde May 01, 2010 | $4.63 | 104674 words | Sample 20% |

| Author bio: Strange name for an English bloke but nobody can choose their parents. Jo cannot remember being born but assumes he must have been. He has done a fair bit since, including working for a short while on a farm cultivating mushrooms. They were not magic, although, as if by magic, he always got a seat to himself on the bus home after work - work which included manually filling the wooden boxes, in which the mushrooms were grown, with exceedingly fresh horse manure. On balance, Jo prefers reading and writing books. Jo is the author of The Jeremy - Snaps Of The Dragon |

Abattoir Jack | by Christopher Neilan April 27, 2010 | $4.75 | 46108 words | Sample 10% |
| Author bio: Christopher Neilan is the author of the Punked Books novel Abattoir Jack. Christopher Neilan began writing seriously when he realised it was unlikely that anyone would pay to hear him play guitar, and yet more unlikely that anyone would pay to hear him explain in detail his favourite Tom Waits songs. He has been “working†in TV comedy since 2005, when Sam Bain and Jesse Armstrong, writers of Peep Show, managed to get him a job on a sketch show, but relations on said show took a downward turn when he pitched a sketch based on a man French kissing a cat. Work has been sporadic ever since. He has written one novel and several short stories, has worked for producers Phil Clark (Peep Show) and Ash Atalla (The Office), and has been affiliated with a number of terrible short films (and a few alright ones). He plays his guitar at night and works behind a bar. He’s studying an MA and he does not have a car. He’s moved three times in three years but he’s not moved very far. Christopher has a degree in Film Studies from the University of Kent, a diploma in Filmmaking from the Brighton Film School, and has one pair of jeans that fit rather well. He lives in Brighton. |
