She continues to burn copies of the Chronicle as kindling for the fireplace in her Apocalypse-proof South Austin bunker, whilst she works on her opus, Naked Montreal. Laura currently helms the literary magazine, Black Heart, works as a freelance writer and editor, and blogs about all things literary at her portfolio site, Buttontapper.com. Author bio:
Having lived in Japan since 1988, Hugh Ashton was surprised recently to receive an e-mail message from an old college friend working in a London bank informing him that a metal deed box which had lain undisturbed in the banks vaults for nearly 100 years was due to be thrown out, since the bank was moving to new premises. Given his knowledge of Hugh's interest in Sherlock Holmes, the friend felt that the deed box, marked clearly on the outside with the name of Dr John Watson, Holmes's friend and biographer, could prove of interest. After various legal battles, Hugh obtained ownership of the box, which was shipped to his home in Kamakura, a little south of Tokyo. On opening the box, Hugh discovered a collection of tales describing the adventures of Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson which had never previously been published. Three of them are given here, and more are expected as he continues to decipher Dr Watson's almost illegible writing.

A Collection of Short Contemporary Stories by James W. Nelson A Collection of Short Contemporary Stories by James W. Nelson April 10, 2012 $0.99 56726 words Sample 30%
These are stories taken from mostly personal experience with a whole lot of imagination added. Dozens, hundreds, thousands, of occurrences happen every day, every minute, and there is a short story hidden in each one. Sometimes one can see the story, imagine how it could happen differently, and take a note or two. A good idea would be to always carry a tiny notebook and pen.
Author bio:
James W. Nelson was born in a little farmhouse on the prairie in eastern North Dakota in 1944. Some doctors made house calls back in those days. He was living in that same house on the land originally homesteaded by his great grandfather, when a savage tornado hit in 1955 and destroyed everything. They rebuilt and his family remained on that land until the early 1970s when diversified farming began changing to industrial agribusiness (not necessarily a good thing.) James spent four years in the US Navy, worked many jobs and finally has settled on a few acres of land exactly two and one half miles straight west of the original farmstead, ironically likely the very spot where the 1955 tornado first struck, which sometimes gives him a spooky feeling. He has written 6 novels, 2 collections of short stories, his autobiography, and presently is working on his 7th novel plus a nonfiction of more memoirs and opinion. One For The Trouble - Book Slam Volume One by Book Slam One For The Trouble - Book Slam Volume One by Book Slam March 01, 2012 $3.20 46747 words Sample 20%
One For The Trouble – Book Slam Volume One is the first publication from the UK’s premier literary event. Eighteen Book Slam alumni were approached to take a song title for inspiration for a new short story or poem. The resulting collection is unique, diverse and thoroughly entertaining. One For The Trouble provides a perfect snapshot of the very best contemporary British writing.
Author bio:
Running for almost a decade, Book Slam remains London's best literary event and something of a cultural institution. Over the years, most of the UK's finest writers have graced the Book Slam stage (Nick Hornby, Howard Jacobson, Zadie Smith ...) and it's a great place to spot up and coming musical talent (Plan B, Kate Nash, Jamie Woon and Adele all played early gigs there). Now the Book Slam team have thrown their considerable muscle into publishing with the release of 'One For The Trouble', which is their first annual and a glittering collection of musically-themed prose and poetry from the likes of Irvine Welsh, Jon McGregor, Hari Kunzru and William Boyd. 'One For The Trouble' is available as a limited edition, signed (by all the authors) hardback from the Book Slam website; an ebook and a audiobook.
