Children of Mire. | by Gerald Crenshaw Nov. 02, 2008 | $1.50 | 81156 words | Sample 25% |
| Author bio: I was born in Charlottesville Va. and have been an avid reader since childhood. I am the middle child of three brothers. When my 5th grade class went to the public library for the first time, I was the only one with a library card already in possession and a mountain of books already read. Book reports were never a problem. To this day my wife's one legitimate complaint about me is if I am reading, or even worse writing, the house could be on fire and I wouldn’t notice. Visitors to our home always ask the same question of "Have you ever disposed of a book?" and the answer to that is no! Electronics and communications has been my passion since high school, earning a BS in Telecommunications. After years working for various equipment manufactures the job and fate landed me in Dallas Texas area. After may other jobs (Ok so I wasn’t an engineer, I was a migrant worker subject to the whims of current government projects.) I found a home at a little upstart telephone company called MCI. After twenty-two years there I got caught in the big lay off and deception. Most of my writing up to that point was technical papers for business and magazine articles, but I did get to work with a very good editor who put a bit of polish to my writing (Thank you Andy!). I currently work for the state of Texas as a radio technician taking care of state police communications. I did feel I was overripe for a novel awhile back and this was the result. I hope you enjoy it and yes I am working on a second novel. |

John Smith, World Jumper Book One: Portal to Adventure | by E. Patrick Dorris Nov. 04, 2008 | Free! | 63937 words | Read a sample |
| Author bio: In my forty something years I have generated a very broad set of experiences and interests, but through it all, I have always read. It seems that at times it is harder to find books that enthrall me, although admittedly I am behind on my reading, so I decided to start writing the kind of stories I'd want to read. I have always had stories in my head, they intrude at the strangest times. At some point, I discovered that when I took the time to write them down, more stories kept pouring out. There are so many ideas I have, it seems like there won't be enough time to get to them all. I'm starting with one story, in one particular style. But other stories, in different styles are coming. Stay tuned. My goal in writing is above all to entertain. Thank you in advance for giving me that opportunity. |

| Author bio: My books are aimed at broadening the imaginations of children eg mini adults - I have only uploaded a few pages so far of one of my books - more will go up shortly - I started writing for my 2 young children after my divorce - it was a way of keeping in touch with them - I created hardcopy versions and gave them away to my kids and it has grown from there - I used to also visit schools and read to the children - to see the delight on their faces is fantastic - you can almost feel their imaginations growing, expanding as you read to them - this went on for years until now my children have now grown into adults and have children of their own - Now is the time to venture into the world of having my books published in e-book format - If it works - great - if it doesnt - its not a problem - I have written dozens of childrens books - my genre being light hearted and comical although I have also written some books aimed at the 'thriller' market - hopefully the new world of ebooks will encourage more writers to get out there and get creative - well done Smashwords and keep up the good work -kind regards Christopher |
