Hi, I'm 29 years old and i've been writing for nearly 10 years and i've enjoyed modest success. My stories focus on the darker side of fiction with the protaganist in my novel being a semi retired mob enforcer, who thinks nothing of using torture as a means to an end. Some of my short stories are lighter, having a humourous approach to them. I would like to end this profile by saying thanks for taking to time to read it and that I hope you take the time to read my stories.

Peter Wilson was born in Nottingham, England, in 1936. After education at Nottingham High School, where he changed course from classics to science because he couldn’t get on with Greek, he gained an open scholarship to St. Edmund Hall, Oxford, to be taken up after National Service (1955-57) in which he was a radio mechanic at the SHAPE military headquarters near Paris. At Oxford he gained first-class honours in chemistry, then took a PhD at Leeds University. In 1964 he was appointed to a research position at the nuclear reprocessing site at Sellafield in Cumberland (the north-western corner of England), then operated by the United Kingdom Atomic Energy Agency (UKAEA) of which the relevant division became British Nuclear Fuels plc (BNFL) in 1971. He remained there until retirement in 2001, mostly working on process chemistry development. For the last dozen years he was chiefly concerned with certain aspects of long-term waste management and related strategic issues, helping to form the company technical policy thereon and presenting its rationale in international discussions. He was also the technical member of a team representing the UK in gaining acceptance of an extension to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty to cover a possible loophole. His book "The Nuclear Fuel Cycle" (Oxford University Press, 1996) has become the standard text on the subject. Following his retirement, BNFL set up and financed a "Peter Wilson Medal and Prize" for research and communication, to be awarded annually at Leeds University. He still lives in Seascale, a coastal village near to the Sellafield site. An interest in amateur dramatics goes back to the 1960s and for 40+ years he has been an active member of the society based in Gosforth, the next village inland. His collection of stories, plays and film scripts along with some factual material may be found at www.peterwilson-seascale.me.uk.

I have been writing since my daughter, now a young woman, was very small as a way for me to unwind and entertain her. At least that was what I told myself at the time. Even now I mostly write fantasy for children and young adults in anything from short story to novel length. I live at Durham, England, with a varying number of British Shorthair cats which I show and breed the occasional litter from. Any spare time when I am not working, writing or showing the cats I use in the garden which always seems to require far more attention than I can give it! I am currently working on the second book of the Dragon World trilogy. The Missing Link ought be ready to publish before the end of the year.

I write fiction in the paranormal genre, with all of my stories linked in some way. Immortal witches, spiritualist mediums and street magicians populate my books, along with many other supernatural characters and creatures and even some ‘normal’ people too. Accursed was my first major project that made me think seriously about writing. Originally designed as a prequel to another book I had written to showcase a supporting character, Accursed, developed a life of its own and expanded beyond the novella I had planned to become a trilogy. World War II has always fascinated me dating back to my days studying history at GCSE and A-level and the idea was to place my central character during this tumultuous time and then make his life get even more complicated. By the end of the book the inexperienced GI and medium has had to grow up fast during very difficult circumstances. As a writer I like to form a basic structure for the plot and adapt the details as I write, though I often find that the characters ultimately determine the direction of the book, taking it away from my original ideas as their personalities take shape. At times I could very much relate to the lead character upon his journey 'down the rabbit hole' into a new and bizarre world of witchery and mysticism as some of the twists and turns surprised me too. The original ending for Accursed would not have lent itself to a sequel so I'm pleased I adapted. Lastly, how to categorise my work? I like to consider my material wholly unique, which I don't think anyone would disagree with. The terms paranormal saga or paranormal romance fit as genres, though I think the term I'm most comfortable with would be paranormal pulp. As a connoisseur of the great pulp books of the past I embrace the term because with pulp you know you're going to get a good story told simply and effectively and that's what I hope I've delivered.
On The Way Home by Richard Allen On The Way Home by Richard Allen Sep. 16, 2011 Free! 2644 words Read a sample
Author bio:
Richard is the writer of 3 novels (Rumbling Heart, Recorded Butterflies, and Emily Martin), various short stories (Christina, Last Night), and countless poems and unpublished songs. His most current work is "Emily Martin," book 3 of the Rumbling Heart series. Interestingly enough, Richard says that the idea for the series came to him in a dream. "I know people always say stuff like that, that their idea is like a dream come true, but in my case, it actually is. The original idea came about after a dream I had about a woman I'd never met before. At first, I wasn't sure who she was or why she was there. After waking up, I thought about the dream constantly; so much so that I kept having it over and over again. Over time, it changed and I began to have different variations of the same dream. I decided to write it all down, hoping it would help me figure out what I was trying to tell myself. I figured I could just write and see where it took me, but never did I think it would turn into a full novel. Before I knew it, I'd written over 60 pages and decided to just go all out. Within a few months, I had the first draft of my book. A few months later, after several editing sessions, I released it, thinking that would be that, but the dream variations kept coming so I wrote more. Even today, having just finished the third book of the series, I'm still having those dreams and they don't seem to want to stop." Richard has stated that the fourth book in the series will be the last, regardless of whether he is still having those dreams or not. His story "Last Night" is currently being developed into a short film. Oddly enough, the story itself was something Richard states he did on a whim after a conversation he had with a few people on Twitter. "People kept saying that they thought writing 2000 words in a single sitting was absolutely amazing. I thought it was a good start, but nothing incredible. I told them I was used to dishing out 8k to 12k words in a single sitting and they openly scoffed at me, saying that wasn't possible. I essentially made a bet with myself: I would write a short story, complete with edits and a viable plot as quickly as I could. Within 90 minutes, I'd written over 5k words. I just kept typing and did not stop. In fact, the end result wasn't exactly what my original idea was. I just let the story write itself. I reread it and thought it was solid and did the necessary edits and grammar checks. In less than two and a half hours, I had a full fledged story, completely edited. I never thought it was the most amazing thing in the world, but I felt it was solid enough to garner some attention not because I'd written it so fast, but because I thought the story and ending would make people think. It turned out to be a somewhat cerebral story and while the ending shocked a few people, it still made them think which is what I wanted." After spending about 10 years in Austin, TX, he has relocated to his old stomping grounds of Corpus Christi, TX.

I live near the Gulf Coast of Texas with my amazing, new, hero-esque husband of one year, who inspires me more than he knows. We share a home with his bingo lovin' mama and I'm reluctantly becoming more and more charmed by his roley-poley, cantankerous chihuahua. In the beginning, I got started writing sexy, steamy short stories on a whim - just to see if I could do it. Then, as I realized that my imagination was expansive but my technique was on the short side, I started researching and honing my skills. Caught within the agonizing process of letting go to take the next step, I'm frantically 'building a platform' and putting myself out there. I've got a ways to go, but I love every minute of the journey! I love getting feedback and talking to people about my work (or theirs!) - so feel free to connect me online: http://summerellisbooks.com/ Thank you again for your support!

Author bio:
Steven David Justin Sills is a poet, novelist, and scholar of great books of the Western Canon. Review from the Arkansas Gazette: Papyrus: An Eloquent Ode to Life's Many Gritty Moments by Amy L. Wilson Arkansas Gazette Little Rock, Arkansas April 1990 An American Papyrus Steven Sills The Chestnut Hills Press Poetry Series 63 pages; $6.95 paperback Twenty-six poems make up this first published book by Steven Sills, 26, of Fayetteville. Sills' vision is often a dark one. He writes of the homeless, the abused, the forgotten people. He is also intrigued with the mystical, the sensual/sexual, loss--as in losing those whom we hold dear, such as a spouse or lover--as well as the lost, such as someone who is autistic, who seems unreachable. Sills' skillful use of the language to impart the telling moments of a life is his strength. He chooses his words carefully, employing a well-developed vocabulary. He is thoughtful about punctuation, where to break lines and when to make a new stanza. He's obviously well versed in "great" literature. Sills' command of language helps to soften the blows of some of the seamier passages found in his poems. Seamy may not be the best word to use. Perhaps gritty is a better word or just plain matter-of-fact and to the point, as in this descriptive passage from "Oracion A Traves De Gasshole," about the hopeless feelings of a respiratory therapy worker: "With the last of the air drawing in/ Begins to fold its walls; and he could imagine it/ Like he could imagine from inexact memories/ The woman last night at the hospital, whom he began to like---/ Her body pulling cell by cell/ Apart before he had a chance to finish the rescue with the hose." The book begins with "Post-Annulment2" a poem with a poignant description of society's displaced--"As the sun blazes upon the terminal's/ Scraped concrete/The shelved rows of the poor men"--and continues by describing a city scene through the eyes of a maintenance worker at the Hilton Hotel. The protagonist's wife has left him and he is taking the bus to work that morning, his mind wandering as he looks for the key to why she is gone. "He rings the bell. / The idea of her not home and legally annulled/ From his life--her small crotch not tightened to his desperate thrusts/ Makes him feel sick. He gets down from the bus./ He goes to work. He suddenly knows that he is not in love." As many poets will do, Sills could not leave this work alone. So a hybrid of this poem, "Post-Annulment" ends the book. In it, he has kept many of the original lines and added parenthetical remarks to expand on his ideas. It is in this context he allows himself to comment on religion: "Religion is a lie! Everything is a lie!" and on marriage: "Marriage, that sanctified legal rape, fosters the child-man to be a destined societal function as he grows up in the family unit." Not all of the poems are so bleak and cynical in every passage, however, as is apparent in "The San Franciscan's Night Meditations": "The night is full of impulses to live and run and seep heavily into its dark robes of silence and morbid rightness." People who do not feel comfortable examining in detail the darker side of life--the the details that the average person overlooks because it just hurts or feels to strange to look--will not enjoy this book. Serious writers of free verse, contemporary poetry and/or those who study it will not be disappointed. Sills, a native of Missouri, is a recent graduate of Southwest Missouri State University in Springfield. He currently is working in Fayetteville. Sills dedicated his book to Mike Burns, a poet and teacher at SMSU who helped him edit his work.

The only subject I was any good at during my childhood was English, so becoming a world renowned novelist was the supreme fantasy along with achieving the typical sporty ones concerning World Cup football matches and world title boxing fights. I've always had a profound love of the written word, whether creating, reading or analyzing. It's lead to an exciting career in journalism and three well received published books have come along the way: No Glove No Love (boxing novel), The Elite Forces Handbook of Unarmed Combat (martial arts) and From Prison to the Premiership (ghostwritten autobiography). The next phase is writing ebooks which I am grateful to Smashwords for providing the opportunity to do.Judging by the intinial reaction to my work, I may have finally found my niche! Vampire Assassin (Jane #1) by Samantha Warren Vampire Assassin (Jane #1) by Samantha Warren April 27, 2011 Free! 15317 words Read a sample
Author bio:
Samantha Warren is an indie fantasy and science fiction author who spends her days immersed in dragons, space ships, and vampires. Her best selling books are Blood of the Dragon (Book #1), a full-length epic fantasy novel, and her urban fantasy novella series, Jane. She is currently writing book 5 of the Jane series and the sequel to Blood of the Dragon is due out by Thanksgiving. In the name of research, she enlisted the help of her pet dragon Anethesis and together they built a Noah’s Ark-like space ship. Three trips through a hole in the time-space continuum allowed the pair to explore the universe decades into the past and eons into the future. They discovered how life would be without Earth and were forced to run from alien law enforcement when their ship was deemed unspaceworthy. In the long run, the constant demands of space travel and repairs cut into Samantha’s sock fetish fund, so she was forced to sell her ark for half-price to a slimy creature that made Jabba the Hutt look like Brad Pitt. After her years of traveling, she returned to her roots. When she isn’t writing or reading, she is milking cows or trying to feed them Pop-Tarts and FiberOne bars (they like neither). She also spends a lot of time in her weed patch (aka: garden), drinking lattes at the Village Cafe, or watching any show featuring Gordon Ramsay. Anethesis remains by her side, sleeping away the day and hunting evil cat-eating coyotes by night.
