My background is in Environmental Engineering which is where my strong fascination with environmental issues comes from. I am still unaware where my love for puns was born, and story telling most likely stems back to Sesame Street. |

Dr. Lucky | by Barry Burnett March 31, 2011 | Free! | 6757 words | Read a sample |
| Author bio: My story started in Detroit. After an early exit from high school, I was a bronze foundry worker by day and art student by night, then moved on to a GED, Wayne State University, and med school. This was followed by a residency in Colorado, an alternative practice in Boulder, and a fellowship at UCLA Public Health. My partner lured me to her beloved NYC, where we had the second of three great kids, I taught for a few years, and was certified in Preventive Medicine before dragging her back to this near-fictional isle in the great literal West. Currently, I hold a half-time position as a family doc, making it the world's best day job, a solid dose of life and patient care that still leaves time to write (and, yes, a few healthy-lifestyle things that are fun enough to do but boring to read about — except, perhaps, in the context of a lively, character-filled story). Aside from a few published studies, I began my writing career with the Zen of Science column for Nexus, covering topics from sex to homeopathy, yoga, massage, meditation, acupuncture, social connectedness, and the psychology of cancer survival. A decade ago, I fell into fiction and have been addicted since. This led to the novels Resonance, Thrilling Romance, The Mortalist, a handful of short stories, and now, How To Live Forever. The last has been the best: the characters became friends, if rather odd ones, and I’ve been fascinated by aging and longevity since, well, forever. Please see the Read page for easy links to short stories (gratis), the new eNovel above (currently gratis), and the previous book as a trade paperback (unfortunately non-gratis) at Amazon. Thanks for reading! |

Fistful of Reefer | by David Mark Brown July 13, 2011 | Free! | 78852 words | Read a sample |
| Author bio: I wrote my first award-winning story in 4th Grade, titled “The human bean.†It wasn’t a play on words. Intending to write a profound piece about the human condition, it turns out I wrote a mutant story about a human/legume crossbreed. (Curse you, phonics!) Now I write from the unique perspective of being born and raised on a cattle ranch in Texas while attending University in Missoula, Montana, thus spawning the world’s most self-proclaimed redneck granola. The years in between haven’t improved my spelling, but they’ve created a hell of a human bean. My first book, Tainted Love: God, Sex and Relationships for the Not-so-pure-at-heart (written from all my soiled experiences) was published in 2002 by InterVarsity Press. After several years of retooling myself as a novelist (by drinking more and making less money) I reemerged in 2009 with the concept for Reeferpunk. My lovely wife and I adopted our first child from Vietnam and recently produced a second boy through more traditional means. When not spinning genius into the aethernet I obsess over home wine making, earthen construction, gardening, social justice, ultimate Frisbee and the promotion of industrial hemp. Shadow | by B.A. Savage Jan. 24, 2012 | Free! | 15827 words | Sample 20% |
| Author bio: I plan on writing 30+ books, but I need help from you, the readers. Motivation is a tool that I lack. Creativity is a resource where "my cup" runneth over. So, please, if you have anything positive to say, polite criticism to give, or you simply want to say hi, feel free to. And remember, a review can be a detailed essay or a simple "I loved it". So far, there are a total of six books completed. The other four will be added to this site, if you show me some love! I have created a Marvel like universe. I love the X-men, yet didn't want to create a world that is too open ended and simply explained by a 'mutant' gene. My characters are more works of human curiosity and human stupidity with a twist of twilight zone humor. Thank you for reading this, reading my works, and I'm out like last night's bathwater! |

Skylands: Large Living | by Sylvan Scott Feb. 25, 2012 | Free! | 3191 words | Read a sample |
| Author bio: I wrote about robots. When I was a kid, my first story was about robots that looked like people: the only survivors of a world-wide nuclear war. What can I say? I grew up in the 70's. Since then I've sculpted all manner of stories about all sorts of topics. Science Fiction and Fantasy still remain favorites of mine and, usually, what I can express in speculative fiction I'd rather not express in other formats. I love short stories and am working on making this writing bug that I've harbored for so many years finally work for me. Here goes nothing. |
