‘Twas the night before Christmas
and all
through the house,
Not a creature dared stir
not even the
mouse.
The tripwires were all hung
out by the
fence with care,
In hopes the we could keep
all the zombies out
there.
The children were nestled
all safe in their
beds,
While visions of zombies eating entrails
danced in their
heads.
Mama with her pistol
and I with a shotgun
and cap,
Had just settled down
for a short catnap.
When out on the lawn
there arose such a
clatter,
I fell from my chair and
rushed to see what was the
matter.
Away to the window
I flew like a
flash.
Tore open the shutters
and peeked through the sash.
The moon on the breast
of the new fallen
snow,
Gave a sharp spark of clarity
to the scene down below.
When what to my frightened
gaze did
appear,
But a man running across the yard
and eight zombies
drawing near!
The little old man was
so lively and
quick.
I knew in a minute that
he was our neighbor, Nick.
More rapid than eagles,
the zombies they
came!
And he whistled and shouted
and called them by name.
“No, Dan! No, Dawn!
No, Phillip and
Sven!
No, Carey! No, Corey!
No, Donny and Kevin!”
“To the bar we went every night,
we were
drinking buddies all!
So don’t do this! Just dash
away,
Dash away, dash away all!”
