She is deeply shaken in front of the bedside of her daughter Juliet, directing her watery eyes on her apparently peacefully sleeping child. Still she is shocked, cannot comprehend what has happened, and takes the sober explanations of the physician with only dimly perception. How could this happen? Her daughter? A suicide attempt? She cannot understand it.
The doctor looks at her seriously - what had he just said? Very critical condition, between life and death, ending uncertain. Something in this direction. He seems to be in a hurry, just turning around and leaving mother and daughter alone.
For one long moment, she just stands there - perfectly helpless and cannot think clearly any longer. She puts a chair close to the bed of her daughter. Before she sits down, she notices how dim it is in the room. Resolutely she goes to the window and pulls the curtains - let there be light!
