The Cat Stretch
It's one of those beautiful English autumn mornings and you have just invited me round to share a salad of calamari with you at Hampstead.
As you welcome me at the door you're wearing a just-above-the-knee, full, black & white polka dot skirt, red heels with delicate ankle straps and a sleeveless white blouse buttoned at the back; and an engaging smile framed by those sensuous blood-red lips pressed apart to expose beautiful white teeth, just as I remember; and your makeup is accentuating but subtle.
Your golden hair, always such a striking feature of yours, is immaculately tied back, but not too severe, since I see a strand or two has escaped confinement and lie wispy down one side of your face. I catch a whiff of perfume: high notes of night jasmine along with the low, sensual notes of opium. I feel a little dizzy. You look stunning.
Sunlight comes streaming through the large window into the room; a smooth jazz piano combo is playing on the radio as I enter. It's so good to see you and to have you all to myself for a fleeting moment of my life. I enjoy the click of your heels; the slow swing of your hips as you patter across the wooden floor to lower the blind a little, projecting a more dappled light. I take in the exquisite curve of your calves clothed in light tan stockings as you walk and I have a picture of you (from another life?) walking towards me: so poised and confident; so elegant and at ease in your womanliness.
