Author’s Foreword
A child’s birthday is one of the year’s most enjoyable events to look forward to for both parents and child. The child’s initial excitement upon waking up and their anticipated present opening is just as anxious a moment for the parent as it is for the child. ‘Will they like their present or won’t they?’ It was such a treasured and anxious moment that provided me with the idea for this story. I hope you enjoy it.

‘Annie's Birthday Surprise’
The bright morning sun shone through Annie's bedroom window. As she woke from her sleep, Annie sat up in bed and rubbed the sleepiness from her eyes. Annie had slept soundly and was eager to start a new day. Then it dawned on her and she suddenly smiled broadly, as her eyes lit up in recognition. She remembered what day it was.
"Yippee!" yelled Annie gleefully as she began to jump up and down on the top of her bed excitedly. "Yippee for Annie! Today is my birthday. Yippee! Yippee for Annie! Yippee!"
Annie hurriedly dressed herself. She half-washed her face and forgot to brush her teeth or flush the loo before dashing downstairs to open her birthday present.
