Sometimes Kelly hated this lousy job. It wasn't what she'd signed up for when she applied to join the SpaceCorp Border Patrol unit.
The novelty of interstellar travel had long worn off and even the beauty of Antimon's double moons, hanging low in the sky like white cherries in the sparkling firmament did not impress her any more. Worse, she was still a lowly first-grade customs clerk, stranded light years from anywhere on one of the Empire's most inhospitable planets.
She was feeling claustrophobic, confined inside the complex for months at a time. It was twenty degrees above absolute zero outside - cold enough to kill within fractions of a second if you were foolish enough to venture out of the building without a suit.
Lucky, then, that the inside of the Border Control unit was always kept at a toasty seventy-five degrees, sometimes hotter if the air conditioning malfunctioned, as it had done today.
Kelly sighed and pulled down the zip of her regulation boiler suit, revealing her sporty black bra. Who cared? There was no one to see her.
When she'd applied to SpaceCorp, she'd had visions of working on board sleek spacecraft, hanging out with crew her own age, hell, perhaps even making it on to one of the pilot training schemes. And she'd heard tales of what went on once you were safely off earth.
"What happens in space stays in space" seemed to be the mantra for extra-terrestrial workers, safely away from the prying eyes of friends, family and significant others and all eager to join the ten-thousand-mile-high club. Kelly had looked forward to getting some action.
At twenty-five, with her peachy skin, curtain of pale blond hair and luscious curves, she'd never had any problem attracting guys. But she hadn't counted on being sent to a planet where she was the only human - and likely to remain so for at least the next three months.
Even if there'd been another girl on Antimon, that would have been better than nothing. Kelly knew that there were plenty of ways a pair of girls could have kept each other entertained. Kelly had particularly fond memories of Sara, on her all-girl campus, who had given her some of the best oral she had ever had. The thought of that spiky dark hair bobbing up and down between her legs as she lapped at her swollen clit was making her wet, and she groaned.
If she'd been in her own quarters at the rear of the base, she'd have reached for her vibrator. She was amazed it wasn't worn out from its over-use this last couple of months. Standing to one side of the camera's all-seeing eye, she reached down the front of her boiler suit and stuck her hand down the front of her panties, stroking her hot, wet cleft.
There wasn't a ship due in for the next two hours, and she could keep an eye on all the security cams to make sure no unauthorized craft approached while she quickly...
Damn! She heard a noise behind her and quickly pulled her hand away.
She turned. It was Zeldon, one of her colleagues drafted in from among the natives of Antimon. How much had he seen? She flushed. She saw herself as he might have seen her: back arched in pleasure, hair cascading back over the shoulders of her boiler suit, her full breasts exposed, her hand in her panties.
She whipped round.
"Don't you ever knock?" she asked accusingly.
"I can guess what you were doing," he teased. "I've seen the VR films about it. Human females like to pleasure themselves in the absence of a mate. It makes them feel good. Don't be shy. Carry on if you want to. I'll keep an eye out for incoming traffic."
Kelly's face was bright red now, and her green eyes blazed with anger.
"Do you think I asked to be stuck out here on this dump of a planet?" she shouted. "There isn't another human closer than ten light years away. And to top it all off, I've got creeps like you invading my privacy."
Zeldon looked hurt, and she felt instantly guilty for yelling.
Of all the Antimon she had met during her posting, he was actually her favorite, and they frequently confided in each other. She had become quite close to him, and if he hadn't looked quite so lizard-like, she might even have confessed to having a bit of a thing for him.
Maybe that's why I feel embarrassed, she told herself, swiftly following up the thought by telling herself not to be ridiculous.
Her voice softened.
"Hey, Zeldon, I'm sorry. I know it wasn't your fault. I shouldn't have been dealing with my own, erm, needs while I was on duty. I just forgot you were due back from tea break and, well, I'm a bit homesick and lonely, that's all."
Almost without her realizing it, her eyes filled up and her dark lashes became wet as the tears ran down her face.
Zeldon walked towards her and put two of his four arms around her.
"Don't cry. I'm not cross with you. I understand you are lonely without your kind here, and I too would find it difficult to go such a long time without experiencing the mating ritual."
Kelly blew her nose. She found it strangely comforting being in another creature's embrace, even one as odd-looking as Zeldon, with his dry, multicolored scaly skin and ant-like head. She pulled back her head and looked into his kind, dark eyes before snuggling back against his chest.
"Thanks for being so understanding. I - uh - didn't even realize you guys mated. I guess I thought sex was something that happened on Earth, between humans."
She knew it was unprofessional to stand here talking about inappropriate topics when they were supposed to be working, but she was genuinely interested. Zeldon had never mentioned a wife or a girlfriend when they chatted. Come to think of it, although she thought of him as 'he', she didn't even know for sure if he was male.
Zeldon smiled at her.
"You never asked," he said. His voice was sad. "Since your people conquered our planet, we have been instructed by our leaders not to discuss our mating rituals with you in case you find the topic unpalatable. But if you like, as I consider you a friend, I can tell you what we do."
Kelly was keen to divert the conversation away from the embarrassing incident, as well as being genuinely intrigued by her colleague's sex life.
"Yes, please," she said, as he relaxed his hold on her and she began leafing through some paperwork. "And I can tell you some more about humans and what we do, if you like?"
