Author’s Foreword
Bonfire Night has been celebrated for over 400 years and November 5th still remains a magical night for millions of children. Children make up images of Guy Fawkes, which they burn on top of their bonfires, often knowing very little about the symbolism of their act. Although Robert Catesby was the leader of the plotters, it was Guy Fawkes who has become the most famous and remembered, because he was the one caught in the act. They caught Guy Fawkes in possession of 36 barrels of gunpowder beneath The Houses of Parliament in 1605 trying to blow it up. They tortured and then executed him. Each Bonfire Night, his part in the History of England is remembered.

‘Annie's Bonfire’
It was early November when Annie's teacher, Miss Wigglesworth told the children the story about a man called ‘Guy Fawkes’. Annie and her classmates listened and learned about the man who had tried to blow up ‘The Houses of Parliament’ 400 years earlier.
Annie had often heard her parents and the newsreader on the television talk about ‘The Houses of Parliament’, but she did not know where these houses were or who lived in them.
"Where are these houses, Miss Wigglesworth?" Annie asked her class teacher, "and who lives in them?"
Annie knew these houses weren’t down the street where she lived or the next street. Annie also knew that Miss Wigglesworth was a brain box.
