Colette knew that Amadeus had a sworn duty to protect his lord, at any cost. This was the burden of being a knight.

This duty extended to the lord’s family, notably, the beautiful Colette herself. Colette had hoped he had noticed her, her coy looks as he passed her in the hall near the king’s quarters, but he only appeared stern and stoic. She knew that he had a sworn vow of chivalry to uphold, but she hoped nevertheless.

One day she found him in the garden as he was polishing his lance, often used when he had to test his mettle in jousting matches. As she approached, she saw him running a rag up and down its smooth shaft, reaching the tip and gently polishing it. She shivered as she saw him hunched over, his steel armor perfectly formed to his rippling muscles, notably his mountainous abs. He noticed her and nodded, smiling.

“Good day, my lady,” he said, his voice gruff and impressive. Colette was convinced his stubble affected it. “A fine day today isn’t it?” He looked at himself in his reflection he had created in the lance’s shaft. Over his shoulder was Colette, biting her lip as she looked at his finely manicured weapon. “Colette?” he turned to look at her vibrant blue eyes. “Is anything the matter?”
