The light was blinding, I instinctively shielded my eyes with my arm. Where was I? My irises shrank, adjusting to the insane amount of light invading my eyes. I sat up and looked around. No wonder it was so bright, someone shone a spotlight directly above my body. Weird.

Apart from the spotlight, the room was bathed in dingy fluorescent lighting, a metal tray containing all manner of strange tools lay above a movable drawer next to my bed. Getting off the bed, I turned around to find out that it wasn't a bed at all. It looked more like a table. Wherever I was, I certainly wasn't at home.

The large freezer with a whole bunch of drawers was the only thing the room to have truly caught my attention. What exactly was it? Walking up to it, I pulled one of those drawers open… only to find a body bag. My heart pounded violently as I backed up. Wait a minute, I clutched my chest. My heart was still as a rock. How could this be?

The shock of having no heartbeat should have sent adrenaline pumping in my veins now. I should be surprised, or angry, or scared! I should feel something! But I didn't. All I felt was a strange calm… and an irrational thirst for blood.

I backed away to the corner of the room, my mind worked frantically to recall the events from last night. Oh yea, my boss Mr Blackwright came out of the closet, he and his lover Tristan did it in front of me watching. I joined in and then…

Oh shit!

I felt my canines, since when were they this sharp? Why this great thirst for blood? And why, did I suddenly feel so… powerful?

"Uhh…"

I looked up, standing before me with his eyes almost popping out was a man dressed in surgical garb. My eyesight improved greatly, letting me see his name tag.

Mr Jones, coroner.

So it really happened. I was already dead. Now I was a vampire.

Mr Jones collapsed onto the floor with a dull but loud thud. I checked his pulse, he was still breathing. I smirked.

The pussy had probably fainted.

His neck, on the other hand, looked highly appealing to me. I shamefully wondered how it tasted like, before silently scolding myself for having such uncivilized thoughts.

C'mon Penny Applegale! I told myself, you're still human, and you have more important things to attend to, like finding Louis and Tristan!

From the corner of my eye though, I spied a filled blood pack next to the fridge. My hunger could cause problems later, so I swiped it just in case.

It wasn't difficult finding my way back onto the street, although I did take a moment to freshen up my now pale complexion in the mirror and find some acceptable looking clothes in the morgue. Stepping onto the sidewalk, I walked briskly down the road. My mind was still in a whirl, not knowing what to do or who to talk to. If everyone thought I was dead, my appearance before them would probably shock the life out of them. The only ones who would know what fate lay before me would be Louis or Tristan, and I had to find them fast.

The night air was refreshingly cool. My senses had strengthened thanks to my new found vampiric powers. Though I did not know how to control or even activate it, its effects were already noticable and felt the more I walked.

I didn't get tired even after walking down five blocks briskly, my breathing stayed constant and seemed to only change when I wanted it to. My vision improved tremendously, not only could I see without my contact lenses, but the night suddenly became almost as clear as day. My muscles seemed to possess immense strength and unlimited stamina. I even started entertaining thoughts of possible immortali-

A rough pair of hands grabbed me, violently throwing me to the ground.

"What? HELP!" I cried before a black bag was bound over my head.

"HELP! HEEEEELP! I'M BEING KIDNAPPED!" I cried as loudly as I could. But I was sure my muffle cries reached the ears of no one as my limbs were bound.

I felt myself being lifted and put into a car. The engine was pretty loud, driving my enhanced hearing crazy. With my newfound strength, I thought I could break my restraints, but no matter how hard I tried, I just couldn't. With a heavy heart, I resigned myself to my eventual fate.

I was already legally dead. Who would bother to rescue me now?

I don't know how long or when, time seemed immaterial now that I was immortal, and dead. But I waited, my senses gathering every scrap of information that came by.

The confounded engine noise blocked out most of my hearing, but I could tell from the noise itself that it was a very powerful car, likely a four-door sedan since I believed I was thrown into the backseat. It went roughly at 40-50 miles/hr. Even if I were to struggle and break free, jumping out of it would have caused serious damage to my dead body. And despite being a lowly secretary in life, I knew enough about the human body to understand that if I was dead, my injuries would never heal again.

So I waited. Until the car finally stopped, until I was dragged out and carried to someplace I did not know, until I was seated and then restrained in a chair, and until they finally took off the bag over my head.

I opened my eyes. A sense of déjà vu filled me as my irises adjusted to the amount of light shone in my face.

Standing around me were four figures, staring down at me, judging me as I shivered in the spotlight.

"W-what do you want?" I asked feebly, dazed and confused.

One stepped forward, managing to still shield his features from my eyes.

"Ms Penny Applegale?"

"Y-yes, that's me, what do you want?"

"Greetings, Ms Applegale," a second figure emerged from the shadows but not into the light, "you'll find that we're the same kind and that you are amongst friends."
