Tico is a creamy yellow pencil who has sharp lead. He bounces on his eraser. He doesn’t have any family or friends. Whatever he draws doesn’t have color. His life is lonely.

Yola is a box of crayons. The only thing she can draw is blotches of color. She wants a happy life. Her life is very colorful, but not very interesting.

Tico was looking for some color while drawing. He drew a rainbow, but it wasn’t pretty. He drew himself a city, but it was still lonely. He felt like the worst pencil in the whole world.

Yola was looking for someone to draw something for her. She felt so sad. She thought that if she met someone who could draw, they could make a world together.

One day, Tico drew a plain old colorless flower. At the same moment, Yola was coloring blotches of red and yellow. Suddenly, they looked up and saw that they had created a beautiful flower with red petals and a yellow center.

Tico shouted, "Yahoo! My flower is colorful!" Then he looked over and saw Yola.

"Hey, you turned my colors into a flower!" Yola exclaimed.

"No, you gave my flower color!" Tico responded excitedly.

"You are awesome!" they both shouted at the same time.

Tico laughed. "Jinx, you owe me a soda!" he joked.

"Well, how am I going to get one?" Yola questioned him.

"I'll draw it and you color it." Tico explained. “By the way, what is your name?” Tico asked.

“My name is Yola.” Yola replied.

“I like that name,” Tico said. “My name is Tico.”

“Would you like to create a fruit stand?” Yola asked.

“Okay,” Tico replied. “I will draw some fruits and you can color them in.” Tico drew a fruit stand with bananas, apples and strawberries. Yola colored them in with yellow, green and red.

“I think we make a great team together!” Yola cried.

“I am so glad I have a friend like you!” exclaimed Tico.

“How about we create a home?” asked Tico.

“Okay, but the only colors I have are red, yellow, green and blue. ” Yola responded.

“That’s okay.” Tico said, and began to draw. First he made a berry bush, and Yola colored the leaves dark green and the berries bright red. Next, he drew a slide and a table, which Yola colored blue.

They began to build a house, with blue and red walls, and a green and yellow roof. Soon, they got tired.
