INTRODUCTION PAGE OF “GOOD READIN’S”

Hello,

Welcome to the Anthology book of “Good Readin’s” on Facebook.

My name is Suzanne LaRosa-Herlihy.

My son, Timothy J. Herlihy and I created “Good Readin’s “ on Facebook because it was a place for us to store all of our poems and short stories that we have collected.

Over time, we have gotten many fans. We love that people wanted to join us and loved our work!

We, in turn , have read their work and found that people of all ages were creating great works of poems and short stories!

We decided to have an open submission and collect poems and short

stories from our friends and family while they were on Facebook.

As you read many of the poems, please remember that some of them

are from young people and they have very strong feelings.

I encouraged them to write with anger, love, remorse, passion.., etc.

I am submitting them with the same words that they used.

I have changed nothing.

**These poems and stories are used by permission and the author or poet retains all the rights!**

If the words contain things that are offensive, then of course, we would

Like to be informed of what needs to be changed. Our main goal

is to be published In the words that we feel that need to be expressed.

Thank-you,

“Good Readin’s” Facebook group

Poems—Page 1

“In the Darkness ...”

By

Suzanne LaRosa -Herlihy

In the darkness of the night..., the

ghostly figure sees your plight. The

coldness of his heart, it begins to seep.

The only thing to warm your soul , is

the love he claims to keep.

His words ,they are fading..., I can not

hear. His words speak of love, they

sound so dear. Is there truth in his

words, I do not know? Is he friend

or is he foe? He glitters and

shines..., but in my heart...I feel

that he is mine.

Author notes:

I’m a wife and mother living in NJ.

I didn’t start out by writing poems

and short stories. I guess over the years

It just developed. I would write in

the past and just think that my stuff

wasn’t any good and I would throw

it out.

“In the Dark Place”

BY

Suzanne La Rosa Herlihy

In the dark place, I can only see you.

If “The eyes are the window to the

soul”..., then I can only see you.

Passion is what drives a person to go on.

The victory of love is what you have won.

Here in the dark, you can not

see , the words coming at you are

blinding. The strength in your soul is

what gives you a force. Time is wasted on remorse.

The light of day shines on your face. Soon you will forget all about this dark place...

(Author’s notes---

I remember when I wrote this . I was looking at a photo

of Keanu Reeves. There was a very dark back ground .

I imagined him in this dark place and how he would feel. )

“The Vampire’s kiss”

BY

Suzanne LaRosa-Herlihy

The vampire’s kiss is warm and red.

He is alluring into my lonely bed.

The smile on your face , it

tells a lie. The thoughts in your head, they

make me sigh. The mystery is old , as your

passion grows bold. The look, the stare you

give ..., I can not resist. Your words come

through the dark and hazy mist. The power

you hold, it comes on too strong. His soul

speaks to me for way too long. I try to fight the urge of your call, as a dreary night-time begins to fall.

I am weak , as you can see, my lover’s

immortal kiss ..., it beacons me.

(Author’s notes---

I wrote this for my favorite show -“True Blood”.)

“The Performer”

BY

Suzanne La Rosa Herlihy

In the private world you keep.

It protects you like a shield.

It saves you from a wound you

bear , that runs far, far too deep.

There is a pain in your heart..., it

knows the truth. That part of you

will hide from the world ..., because

there is nothing that seems to soothe.

You give the world all your love ,.as It

is reflected in your eyes. The only way

you can survive, is to turn a deaf ear,

to all their filthy lies!

Your path in life is a gallant one, of this...,

I will attest.......

The playful spirit , is like a child. It will always watch , as you perform your best!

(Author’s notes—I wrote this for Actor -Keanu Reeves)

“Waves of love”

Part 1

BY

Suzanne La Rosa-Herlihy

The waves of love, come crashing down.

Endless love..., it knows no bound.

The heart is a time-less piece.

Words of love ..., that begin to cease.

The hurt . The pain. It does not feel.

Passion begins to heal.

Love is for all time..., like a

clock on the wall..., it begins to chime.

Passion washes over the wounds .

The love we feel?

Could it be time to heal?

“Waves of Love”

Part 2

May the “Waves of love” wash over you!

A feeling of passion is brand new.

Life is too short to fight and brew.

Sing songs of love and start anew.

“New World”

By

Suzanne LaRosa-Herlihy

Awaken onto the brand new world. The

cold will embrace you. Feelings of sadness

will encase you. The darkness , it knows

no bounds. The wolves of vengeance will

sound the hounds. Her lover’s hand is out

stretched. The sun will be up soon. But, to

her it looks like a gloomy moon. The rays

of light can not reach her. She is alone in

the dark. The brand new world has left it’s mark..

“Good-Bye Love”

By

Suzanne LaRosa –Herlihy

My words can not reach you.

This has made me very blue.

I await to hear your reply?

I hope that this is not good-bye?

I can not reach through this wall

you have built. Maybe it is I ,who

bears the guilt?

The devotion that people give you, it

seems like empty words!?

It’s as if the words are carried

away, by a flock of flighty birds!

I have tried so hard. I have played

my last card.

I give up now..,as my dream has been

shattered. You were the only person in

this world ,that even seemed to matter....

“Harry Pot-Head”

BY

Suzanne LaRosa-Herlihy

Harry Pothead and the Sorcerer’s stoned!

The magic has gone hay-wire..., and

started a blistering fire!

Harry grabs his broom stick and tries

to alert everyone .His glasses get fogged up

and he flies straight into the sun!

The lesson here boys and girls, if you

pay heed, ..., you must not smoke

that “Wacky-weed”!

“Seasons in The Sun”

By

Suzanne LaRosa-Herlihy

We had joy, we had fun. We had seasons

in the sun! Then the sun got too hot and it

burnt us a lot! That night we were fighting

over the jar of “Noxema” , until our legs

swelled up from the pitting edema! The

next time that we go to the Jersey shore...,

I will be showing you the front door!

“Valentine’s Day Poem” (Day after)

by

Suzanne LaRosa-Herlihy

I hope your Valentine’s day went well..., all in all?

Cupid with his arrow began to fall.

He landed in his cake you see....

Now I’m laughing my ass off>>>>HE..., HEE!

“Distant Love”

By

Suzanne La Rosa-Herlihy

Reflected in my every thought.

The image of you is what is sought.

My mind is in a haze. I can remember

only you on those days.

Nothing else seems to have worth.

The soul and love have given birth.

Time is what is needed ..., as the love

we planted is deep seeded.

Distance will keep us apart.., but never

fear, because you are in my heart.

“ Life”

BY

Suzanne LaRosa-Herlihy

Life..., it melts away.

In your heart.., is where They’ll stay.

Death and change are all around .

If you listen, you can hear the sound!

The voices in your head, it sounds like Them.

Their memories will haunt you, while in your bed!

They say they are in a better place? How can that be, when I still see their face?

I would like to visit them someday? In the

place, where their bodies lay.

I try to picture them in heaven now , with

Wings of flight.

Their glowing figures of pure white.

The love that they left behind.., will find us again.

The spirit will forever dance ..., as their souls enhance.

The very thought if it..., might help us cope?

To be reborn and begin anew..., is our only hope.

“Your Love”

By

Suzanne LaRosa-Herlihy

Your Love is like the falling rain.

It will wash away my tragic pain.

There is no one other like you.

I could never see someone new.

I would feel like I am cheating .

Our love would seem to be fleeting.

The hands of fate must step in.

To lose your love , would be a sin.

There are times when I feel weak and want to quit.

Depression and sorrow feels like a deep dark pit.

I know That I must have courage now.

I just don’t know how?

Without your love? How can I go on?

Should I wait for a sign from above?

The only thing that would heal me now..., is

your everlasting love....

“Love dies, everything dies”

BY

Suzanne LaRosa-Herlihy

“Love dies, everything dies! “

It’s all been a “Pack of lies”.

What are we doing?

Who are we fooling?

We do things just to make this life bearable.

You wake up one day and realize it’s all just a silly fiction fable.

I need to hear the words! No matter how much it hurts.

I can forgive , but without your love,

I can no longer live...

The “grass is greener” on the other side.

Someone up there must of lied!

Life plays a trick on us.

We will fight and put up a fuss.

We think that we have nothing but time?

Our lives can change on the “Spin of a dime”!

“You and Me”

By

Suzanne LaRosa-Herlihy

Is Time wasted on wishes?

Daydreaming, when I should be doing the dishes!

I’m not sure if anything matters.

We have fancy parties with fruit-cups and cold-cut platters..

When everything is said and done.

It’s just going to be you and me .., hon.

So, we may as well go out

and have plenty of fun!

“Who’s Sorry Now?”

By

Suzanne LaRosa-Herlihy

Who’s sorry now?

You’re the Winner---you can take a bow!

I guess I’m sorry too.

I found you with someone new!

I know that it was a moment of weakness. .,

Or, is it that you really could just care less?

At this point , You may ask for forgiveness?

I’ll consider what to say, while your getting dressed!

There was a time , when we considered each other ,”The Best!”

Now we have to give this relationship a Permanent rest.

Live with the knowledge that you broke up this “Happy nest !”

There’s just one thing that you need to know---

My girlfriend here..., just put you through the TEST!

“Special Angel”

By

Suzanne LaRosa-Herlihy

You are my special angel,

can’t you tell?

Sent from heaven above,

you carry my one true love.

Like the wings of a snow white dove.

If you could feel all the love that people have for you,

you would never feel blue.

Someday when our love comes together,

we will feel as light as a feather....

Our souls will have taken flight,

against the cold and bitter night!

The sadness that surrounds your soul,

has taken a very hard toll.

You bring me to life,

the harshness of this world,” It cuts like a knife!”

The thought of you is my only salvation,

across this sea of a lonely nation...

“Guardian Angel”

BY

Suzanne LaRosa-Herlihy

Guardian angel , I keep you busy!

Wow! You really are in a bit of a tissy!?

You fly around so fast on your wings,

It’s no wonder that you haven’t got time to sing!

When I’m old , and start to slow down,

maybe then I’ll hear the sound?

The dirt will be on my mound.

Then we can be angels together,

and we’ll both fly around like birds of a feather!

“Heartless”

BY

Suzanne LaRosa-Herlihy

How could you be so heartless?

I’ve been waiting for you.

You act so cool, now I’m the fool.

You string me along,

for months at a time.

You really made me feel,

Like I belong.

Was it just a fantasy?

Were you trying to play me?

You tell me ,”Don’t stop believing.”

The fact is, now I’m leaving!

After all this, I’m not supposed to hate?

You and I were going to be fate!

But now you’re too late.

You wanted to play a game?

Well..., now I can do the same.

What does it take to get through to you?

There’s no point., you haven’t got a clue.

“Love Lost”

BY

Suzanne LaRosa-Herlihy

Love lost is a painful cost.

My love is not returned,

I’m beginning to feel burned.

The passion I felt for you was so hot.

You were my mere existence and every thought.

It is a shame that love has to die.

All you had to do was to say ,”Hi.”

Perhaps A look or give a sigh?

I’d hate to cling onto false hope?

I had visions of us wanting to elope!

Dreams are torn and washed away.

There is so much that you could say?

You have the power to end this pain.

Your love is driving me insane!

Someday we may get it right?

But is your love worth the fight?

Please don’t hold back on your feelings.

The cards of fate are worth dealing.

Now is not the time to be shy.

If you hold back, then it really is good-bye.

“Moment of Sorrow”

BY

Suzanne Largos-Herlihy

We think we are trapped in a moment of sorrow.

But it’s really a life time of bad tomorrows.

My love is here, if only to borrow?

You know, We can help each other through this.

There are ideas of earthly bliss.

I guess they are so few to list.

We can hope for a brighter day.

There is so much more that we can say.

The idea is to find some peace.

Before the angels come

and call for our release.

I do hope that this has helped you some?

While we await the entrance of God’s heavenly kingdom!

“I forgive you”

BY

Suzanne LaRosa-Herlihy

I forgive you.

I would like to start anew.

Although, my friends can’t understand why?

They think I should of just said, “Good-bye”.

Perhaps it’s not as easy as all that?

Maybe I should just grab my coat and hat?

Life is too short to hold a grudge.

But, it looks like you’re not going to budge.

Well, Let the chips fall where they may?

Maybe you’ll come around ..., someday?

“Opportunity Lost”

By

Suzanne LaRosa-Herlihy

Opportunity has been lost.

Your love was the emotional cost.

They say that things happen for a reason.

I worshiped you for more than a season.

Love, they say.., it knows no bounds.

A new awakening is what I have found.

Love is the hardest thing to find.

Could it have been all in my mind?

The feelings I had , they were very real.

Passion was a moment in time, that we needed to steal.

If you love someone than let them go?

If they return your love than tell them so!

I guess there is a life lesson here?

Right now it’s just not very clear?

When I think of the past.

I wish it would last.

We both have to move on now.

I just don’t know how?

When one door closes, another one opens.

Here’s to wishful thinking and hoping?

There’s just one more thing before we say Good-bye?!

Please just tell me that your love wasn’t a lie?

Timothy J. Herlihy

“The One”

BY

Timothy J. Herlihy

Sometimes while fate and desperately

Measures the quality of a man,

I just wanna fall,

because I just don’t want to be the one to stand.

The one to understand,

the one for guidance,

the one to see you through rough times,

the one who wont hide it.

you can’t see the change,

its bottled in the night sky light-years away,

I still wonder why?

why do we breathe?

why do we see?

why do we cry?

why can’t we be.

....what we want.

“White Outside”

BY

Timothy J. Herlihy

The white outside makes it feel like home.

Over the cold times in my life, my unwarm

soul was sold. I grew up mannerly and bold.

My heart and soul played cards , one was

Bound to fold.

Maybe I’ll see when I’m old . I could

have done other things with my time , just

As I was told.

The white outside makes it feel like home.

Where is my crown and throne?

“Be good or be good at it”, he said.

Since then, the whole family has been drones.

Even my grandmother was skinny as bones, if

you look closely, my sister is a carbon copy clone.

Although the white makes me feel at home, without

those two,

I always feel alone.

Correct me if I’m faulty or wrong, do you

really think the white is going to stay that long?

“A Little OF What’s In Store”

BY

Timothy J. Herlihy

As I glance,

In a trance,

In see you there,

In your stance,

looking at me,

with ripped pants,

who’s that there?,

its Chris man.

Standing solid,

in his boots,

rolling steady with the group.

the dude is cool?

Yeah he is pretty funny,

he is our own personal crash dummy.

Now thats just a taste,

of what you really want..

I remember when my sister was driving a beat up Mitsubishi Gallant.

I love her to death,

honestly I’m for real.

my sister means business,

she is no doubt the real deal.

The number one thing you don’t tamper with,

her especially indeed,

you don’t ever mess with her,

... if she has her keys.

she hits you in the face,

and you won’t know what happens next,

cause Britt just hit you right upside your neck!

Don’t mess with us,

you have crossed a thin line,

you can get taken out any given time.

***Random thoughts***

By

Timothy J. Herlihy

You think about a dummy,

when you think about me.

The first thing that comes to mind,

is when I’ll be free.

I remember getting with the program.

It was called,”D.A.R.E.”

Smoked so many fat blunts that

now I don’t even care.

I used to use rubbers,

now I go bare.

Your the tortoise , I’m the hare.

Screw it, I lost, who cares?

Now you think I’m a silly joke,

It’s like everyday I piss you off.

And every single day you go.

The only thing that I wish

that you can now know,

is that I had good times back

and I could grow.

So, where do I go?

Back to the times when Suzanne had a fro?

Man, I remember everything I did.

Growing up bad, I was a messed up kid.

Man, nevermind,

I’m sitting on the side ,

for every tear I’ve cried.

You know I won’t abide.

****Random thoughts******

By

Timothy J. Herlihy

I try not to think about the messed up times.

That’s partial to the reason why I spit out these rhymes.

Don’t go ponder about my feelings,

They’re pretty complex,

Don’t mess around with me, I’m trying my best.

I just found out that another relative died.

What that means is , all my relatives cried.

Damn, I had a messed up day.

I wish all those motherf**kers would pay!

But the messed up thing is, I have nobody to blame.

Now-a-days you look at me ,

It’s like your filled up with shame.

The only partial thing good about messing up

is when you grow .

Maybe if your going too fast .

More than likely you should slow.

Down just a little,

What’s that ? I felt a nibble.

A quarter -life crisis .. Think back,

and I have to giggle.

Maybe I’m a goner?

Maybe you’ll grow fonder ?

Of me most likely as the day’s get longer.

Next Poet—Introduction:

“Comfort”

BY

Michael J. Olebar

As gloom subdues the mind,

Darkness encases my soul.

Emotions are gone, thoughts are cold,

In my heart emptiness burrows a hole.

Clinging to sanity, just holding on,

Before I know, life as I knew is gone.

Scattered thoughts in my mind start to roam,

Seeking peace and comfort, a place to call home.

The whoas of the world have worn me down,

Every bit painful as a Thorn Crown.

The meds and substance I use for happiness are all fake,

The things I’ve done in my life cause my heart and soul to ache.

I moan, I cry, I even shake!

In this darkness it is a home

I must make.

Next writer---Introduction:

“ Fear not a Phobia “

By

Blake Toth

I have a fear, its not a phobia.

Its everywhere there’s no hiding.

I could live in constant scare, or I

could live by rhyming. Its my true

escape, away from depression. Anyone

can quit and give it up. But im here for

the taking, to live it up. This here is my

awakening. Limits don’t exist. Opportunities

aren’t lost, their just missed. Anyone can

make a comeback, its hard work forget how

to slack. This is real, you haven’t had this

told like this before. Its not failing its lack of trying. Results aren’t unrealistic they aren’t surprising. Its all about realizing it takes courage.

Fear is my motivation. Its inspiration in its simplest

form, there is no explanation.

Its my secret for domination.

Next Poet—Introduction

John Jackson

I am a 15 year old boy who loves writing poetry. I was born

August 25, 1994 and ever since I was 13 I started getting more

and more into poetry. The poems I wrote started off really bad but

over time, as I experienced more feelings, love, hardship, kindness,

and more emotions, my poems turned into something special.Every poem

I write has a meaning to me that no one in the world would understand.

My inspiration to write was due to people going through rough things

in life and it inspired me to write better poetry, and here I am now,

still thinking up ideas for more poems to write from my heart.

Here are a few poems I wrote, they came

from my heart so don’t hate, and I tagged

random people so If I have you added and

you don’t know me then ok sorry lol. Please

don’t steal them, if you want me to help you with

poetry, honest to god I will. But don’t be that person

who goes and rips poems off of people who worked

hard to think them up.

This was my reply to him:

I do love your work! I just wanted to say this:

“ If anyone steals our work..., then We have stolen their honor....”

This is a biggest fear among writers and poets.

On the other hand..., what good is the love and

passion that you put into your work..., if no one

can feel the love and passion that you feel, you

write and you express? The words are

hidden from the world.....

it really is like the thorn rose...such beauty

and no one can touch it.

_----------------------------------

“A Simple Rose”

By

John Jackson

A simple rose right over there,

It seems just as no one cares,

Beside a tree, a tree of pears,

People walk right on by,

That beautiful rose just wants to die,

No one cares, but that’s a lie,

But one day the rose will die.

The day has come, that rose had died,

People looked, but passed right by,

The rose was hope, but hope was gone.

Through out the dawn that rose is there,

But no one just seems to care,

For if that one person just dared,

To show that rose a bit of care.

“In a Dream”

BY

John Jackson

I know I’ve seen you in a dream,

You looked at me, that smile gleamed,

I hoped that it was not a dream,

For as it seemed, a dream, a dream.

I looked at you and you looked back,

I almost had a heart attack,

But you knew that I had your back,

For as it seemed, a dream, a dream.

We started talking, together we were,

I loved you and you loved me,

I felt so impulsive so, infected with affection,

For as it seemed, a dream, a dream.

Forever as I thought we are,

As you sat contiguous to me,

I held your hand, just let it be,

For as it seemed, a dream, a dream.

In the end I stood and cried,

As my insides met demise,

For you were no more,

You walked right out the door,

For as it seemed, a dream, a dream.

I glanced and waved goodbye with sorrow,

Thinking how I would live life tomorrow,

You said it was for the best,

But as it seemed, a dream, a dream.

“Beautiful White Dove”

By

John Jackson

The beautiful white dove is captive,

Waiting for the day to arise and be

what he was meant to be,

For he is a bird who loves to glide and fly,
