Little John was sitting in the midst of the gathering, unwrapping his gifts, laid all around him. He was playing with his gifts laid all around him, then picked up another one. Today was the happiest day of his life. After all, it was his birthday and he received a big birthday bash today. All his friends and relatives were invited for the bash. He had a gala time at the party and received numerous gifts from them. He found it very difficult to concentrate on any one particular gift.
Suddenly, the alarm came to life.
“John, get up quick” his mother shouted.
His sweet dream was broken and he came to life.
“Get up now” his mother said again.
“OK” he said.
He got up and shut the alarm. He tried to relive his dream but found it very difficult to concentrate.
“Get off the bed soon. Get ready now” his mother shouted.
“Yes” he said reluctantly and got off the bed.
He usually went to school late. The teachers scolded him earlier on but then found it easier to communicate with his parents. Almost every fortnight, his parents were called by the school to tell them about him.
This had become a usual habit for him now.
He reluctantly went to the bathroom.
He did not want to leave for school today. His teacher had called his mother today, but he did not tell his mother.
He did not want to go to school today, as he had not told his mother about it.
“Be quick” his mother said.
“Yes, mom “he said.
He was thinking to trick his mother so that she allows him to stay back at home. He was thinking of various ways.
Suddenly an idea struck him. He was thrilled and thought to try it out.
After he was ready, he went to his bed.
“Mom, I am not feeling well” he cried out.
“I do not want any excuses now. Get up and be quick now.” His mother said
“I am having a bad headache.” he said.
“Do not lie now.” She said to him.
“No, I am not lying.” He hoped that this may satisfy his mother and allow him to stay back.
She came to his room almost immediately. She was worried a bit now.
“Show me” and proceeded to take his body temperature.
The thermometer read normal.
“I am not lying. I am having a very bad headache today. I can’t even move.” He begged his mother to allow him to stay back at home.
“Here, keep it on your head and get up quickly” she told him handing him a slightly wet towel.
He obeyed quietly, slightly disheartened.
He reluctantly got up from the bed and started to get ready for school.
He acted slowly so as to confirm his headache to his mother. But to no avail.
