Dedication
To God and my wonderful family,
friends, lecturers and church members!
I wouldn’t be who I am today
without all your love and support.

My feeble heart bleeds in sorrow,
Like painful flights of the sparrow;
Grievous hardship hits me so hard,
Hunger and despair plays the card.
I lost it all to Mother Quake,
My home is buried in the lake;
My loved ones shudder without hope,
Distressed and unable to cope.
Destitute sunk in poverty,
Destroyed more than my property;
Calamity that pillages,
Trapped in terrifying cages.
Empathy is so hard to find,
Food and lodging deprived in kind;
Necessities are required,
Starved and battered, we keep quiet.
Death surrounds us like worthless flies,
The stench penetrates without lies;
Stirring in stupor in the dark,
It is worse than in Noah’s ark.
We are buried by the earthquake,
Limbs and faith are squashed as we quake;
Thirst and hunger squeezed out our lives,
Desperation crushes our hives.
Poverty rules without redress,
If only I could have a dress;
Mentally deranged and half mad,
Physically exhausted, so sad.
Who would lend us a helping hand?
We are brothers, our human friends;
We’re all part of God’s creation,
Dying, we need compensation.
On both our knees we beseech you,
Don’t let illness consume us, ewe;
We do not ask for the whole world,
Merely enough for us to whirl.
We appeal to your compassion,
Have mercy, you who have mansions;
Relieve our sufferings today,
Prevent our extinction with no delay.

It is amazing that some are filthy rich,
While many are so deprived and out of reach;
That the rich are able to put all to waste,
The poor die from starvation with a slim waist.
