Once upon a time, there lived a forest ranger named Rick Ranger. All his friends thought it was pretty neat that his last name “Ranger” matched his job as a forest “ranger”.

Ranger Rick
In the summer months, Ranger Rick and some other forest rangers would take children and their families on walks through the forest. The forest rangers would explain all sorts of things to visitors,

like the different types of animals in the forest,

and to watch out for bears.
A forest can be a very large place,
and some people can get lost.
Ranger Rick always carried a

compass with him,
so he wouldn’t get lost.
One summer day in July, Ranger Rick was heading back home when

he walked right into a tree while
reading his compass.
“Youch! That hurt!” cried Ranger Rick.
“There’s nothing but trees in this forest.
Ranger Rick says the silliest things sometimes.
He should know that you can’t have a forest without trees.

Ranger Rick sat down and looked at his compass.
It was pointing North.
“North! That’s it. That’s what I’ll do.” shouted
Ranger Rick. “I’ll take one of these trees from
the forest
