TRIP WIRE

I have always been a health enthusiast, and one of the things I have always liked to do before work is exercise around the local park.

The park I live near is beautiful, it has it all - outdoor exercise equipment, a great big lake on which you can canoe, sail, and row, excellent basketball areas in which you can dribble till your heart is content, great trees in order to cool yourself under, fertile ground in order to take your pets for an enticing stroll, and barbeques in which you can enjoy an afternoon chow.

It is simply fabulous, and it is a pleasure to jog along the path which encircles the lake that shimmers under the golden sun during the day, and turns into a golden lake during the sunset hours.

In fact many people think this is so; why, even in the early morning there are runners puffing out the smoke in their lungs and kicking out the hangover in their brains; there are walkers with dogs of all sizes who enjoy their own morning exercise program as they puff along the designated paths; there are row enthusiasts who pick up their oars when the fog is high in order to gain some practice before the day wakes; and there a skaters who practice their daring moves on slick silver ramps that line the basketball courts on the far side of the lawn.

I myself was once even partial to a little early morning skate. However for me the whole world of morning exercise changed when the local council picked up on the hazard of dogs being in a park without their leash, and incurred a penalty fine for any person who walked a dog without a leash. It was one of these safety leashes that was the maker of my decision to quit morning exercise.
