It was a magnificent Christmas Eve, as every Christmas Eve should be. Snow was falling in big fluffy flakes. The wind made the Christmas bells jingle softly on the front door. Mommy and Daddy hugged Alex and kissed him goodnight. They told him to sleep tight, for Santa would visit him this very night.

Alex felt very happy and excited. He squeezed down between the warm covers with his brown stuffed Doggie. He hoped Santa Claus would not have any problems on his Christmas Eve journey.

However, not all was well at the North Pole! Santa might not make his Christmas Eve trip this year. Poor Rudolf, Prancer, and Dancer were sick and resting on the straw in Santa's North Pole stable. Oh yes, there were other Reindeer, but the trip was long and the night so icy cold. Santa Claus needed his full Reindeer team to help pull the heavy load of toys on his round the world Christmas Eve journey.

Santa knew, yes he knew so very well, he may not be able to visit some of the good little children, this Christmas Eve; if the rest of the Reindeer could not complete the trip. The Elf Doctor gave Rudolf, Prancer, and Dancer medicine to make them better, but they had to stay inside the warm stable and rest for a few days.
Santa was happy, for he knew, by tomorrow they would be better, but tomorrow would be too late; it would be the day after Christmas Eve. A tear ran down Santa’s rosy red cheek, and turned to silver ice on the edge of his white beard. ‘Just maybe,’ he feared, ‘Santa Claus and his reindeer would not be able to make their Christmas Eve visit to all the good little girls and boys this year.’
Santa and his Elves put the harness on the remaining Reindeer, but no one spoke, for they all thought the same thought; some good boys and girls would awake in the early morning, rush to look under the Christmas tree and not find any presents from Santa.
Santa let out a sorrowful sigh and looked up at the dark clear sky over the North Pole. Shinning brightly above was the North Star, Santa's heavenly guide. Then he realized he should not be sad for he could only do his best.

He thought of the Three Wise Men who had kept faith and followed the brightest star in the sky, which led them to the stable where they found baby Jesus lying in a manger.

Santa smiled to himself and let his eyes drift across the sky; he felt the stars were trying to tell him something. He looked as hard as he could then he saw it, the shape of a dog, a big brown colored furry dog. “Ho! Ho! Ho! ” Laughed Santa “It has finally come to me, the answer to all of our problems”

The Elves were beside themselves with happiness. They did somersaults in the snow. They believed in Santa and knew that everything would work out as Santa hoped. The remaining Reindeer stood tall and strong with their chests stuck out proudly. Santa’s eyes gleamed with joy. The stars told him the solution to his problem, which would let him place gifts under the Christmas trees of all of the good little children. He had faith all would be well.

Off Santa went, on the first part of his journey. The Reindeer looked at one another for they knew they could not complete the trip without the three sick reindeer, but they trusted and had faith in Santa. What was the answer? What did the shape of a dog made by the stars mean? Oh Santa, we hope you are right!
