The Biggest Crisis of All
It seems that we are doomed to repeat all of the missteps the people of Earth took. Now we are in a major argument over whether we should continue to be a communal society, change to a capitalist society, or work out some kind of hybrid. All we know right now is that we don't want to fracture our country over the dreaded concept of money.
One faction, I will call them the traditionalists, or "Trads", want us to stamp out the "promise" paper and keep our communal system, and another faction, the "Proms," want to go to a full-on money economy and base everything on a person's stack of paper. The third faction, the "Mods," think that we can keep our current Kibbutz-style economy, but add a separate system of paper promises for trade with the ~Salks~. Naturally, a strict system of government control will be necessary.
All three groups are set in their positions, and refuse to compromise. The Mods claim to have the perfect compromise between the others, but they are so far unable to sway anybody else. Since the factions are of approximately equal size, there is no hope of attaining a majority for any position. There is talk of a fourth group, which doesn't want to have anything to do with the issue, and just wants it to go away. Some of our most prominent citizens are rumored to be in the fourth group.
