Chapter I

The definition of ( Fictional Facts ) in this book, is made-up fictional facts that have an air of believability. Take for instance the 'Heisenberg Compensator' on the Star Ship Enterprise. For the 'Transporter' to work properly, it needed a Compensator. Why?

Because two objects cannot occupy the same coordinates in space at the same time. The old proverb, "in a river, you cannot step in the same place twice," has real world value and meaning. To fix this S.N.A.F.U., they had to invent a fictional way around it.

You will notice that Heisenberg is a real name, and Compensator has real meaning, but put them together and they become a Fictional Fact. Now, the 'Heisenberg Compensator' has an air of believability.

In the following pages, I have written numerous short fiction stories that all utilize Fictional Facts. As a fun exercise, try and separate the Fictional Facts from the real facts and mainstream fiction. By the end of these short fiction stories, you should have a feel for how it is done. Feel free to borrow my style and change it enough to make it your own.

Peruvalyn

Peruvalyn is the newest, greatest, cure-all for the common cold. Its main ingredient was found in the Peruvian Mountains, by a Doctor Allister Sykes in 2008. Doctor Sykes was at the time searching for a non-toxic cure or antidote for Heroine addiction.

One day, while out on a plant collecting excursion, he came across an unidentified plant. His guides at the time did not even have a name for the innocuous weed. This of course intrigued the Doctor, and peeked his interest greatly. Soon, it became the only plant he would work on for the following two years. Obsessed with discovering the plants constituents, he faithfully, and methodically recorded his every finding.

Although this plant was not what he was originally looking for, he nevertheless was intrigued to have found an actual, virtually unknown plant to investigate and examine. Doctor Sykes had just completed his one hundredth experiment on it, when he came down with a common cold. His clinical trials were not scheduled for another six months, so he decided to run some preliminary test trials of the extract out on himself. Since he had a common cold anyway, maybe one of the extracts would alleviate some of his symptoms in some small way. At the very least, he could illuminate the common cold from future test trials later on.
