Baby Shooter

Jack knocked the phone off the night table before he remembered he'd remembered to put the damn alarm clock on the table by the window so he couldn't hit the snooze. Throwing off the covers he staggered three shuffling steps at a half crouch to the table and swatted the top of the clock. Time was he would have lunged, but time was he'd have woke up with a back that worked.
He eased himself into the wooden chair with the wrap-around back by the table, having more sense than to sit back on the bed. Pressed particle board stamped by some machine to look carved, he amended. Hotels aren't going to waste money on real wood, carved or not.
One of his books on writing had explained the importance of "keeping the details authentic."
Speaking of which...
No, he didn't have time to damn write before he got to work. Unless he skipped breakfast entirely. As it was he'd already given up on sitting down in the hotel dining room for his complimentary American – not continental – breakfast. Another number one combo – Egg McMuffin, hash browns and large coffee – eaten one-handed while driving. This time remember to take a hotel towel to cover his suit.
