Gods on Patrol

Hercules grabbed a chocolate-covered donut from the Crisp and Creamy box and poured a cup of coffee from the pot sitting on the rickety table at the back of the briefing room. He glanced up at the front of the room as the door opened and Thoth walked in. Hercules hurried over to his seat next to Perseus.

“Hey Bro, cutting a bit tight there,” Perseus muttered as Thoth stopped behind the podium in the center of the front of the room.

Hercules just nodded as he crammed the last bite of donut in his mouth.

“Okay folks, get seated so we can get started,” Thoth called.

Around the room other deities, demi gods and heroes took their seats. As he sipped his steaming hot coffee, Hercules noted it looked like both shifts were here today. It had been a while since he had seen Morgan, looking as good as ever with her flaming red hair spilling out from under her black Divinity Enforcement cap. She normally worked the day shift, so he assumed that she was getting off, but had been called into the meeting.

“Alright then,” Thoth called attention back up to the front of the room. “Now that it looks like everyone is here. I have asked for the joint shift meeting for a couple of reasons. First starting next week, shifts are changing. Now before you get upset, this is just temporary. We have a couple of new guys joining us next week and I’m rotating a few people around so that the newbies can ride with different people at different times. Check you schedules carefully, make sure that you show up when you are supposed to.”

He glanced down at the papers on the podium. His long beak just barely missed the small light. “Now then, on to night shift business. Last night the party in the Nirvana neighborhood got a little out of control. Several people asked why we failed to respond. I’m investigating who was closest to that area when the party got out of hand. Corporate is not happy about, this since there was some interference from the mundane authorities and we had a bit of clean up to do. They are still trying to get all of the cows out of the trees in the surrounding neighborhoods.”

“For those of you who are interested, Artemis got off from the attempted murder charge. Her lawyer used the argument that if the arrow don’t fit, you must acquit. Turns out it was a crossbow bolt, so we are back to trying to find a new suspect. Artemis has been sent to anger management classes.”

“Good for her!” Morgan cheered. “I knew she was innocent, if she wanted that scum dead he’d be dead.”

“I agree,” Thoth mumbled as he flipped another piece of paper. “We also have a rumor that president Shrub may be up to something involving the gods in the next couple of days in an attempt to win the election. Keep your ears and eyes open. Report anything unusual in this area as well.” He flipped the rest of the stack of papers while people shifted impatiently on their hard folding chairs. “Oh yeah, watch the use of the sirens, we’ve gotten some complaints from the different neighborhoods of excessive use of the sirens and that people find it annoying. I have explained that it is a siren. It is supposed to be annoying. The Sirens took offense to my statements and have filed an official complaint with corporate. I’ll keep you posted, but for now, only use your sirens in extreme circumstances.” He returned his papers to a neat pile. “That’s all for today. Please check your new schedules, they will be posted no later than this time tomorrow to try and give you time to make any arrangements that you need before they take effect.” He turned and walked out of the room.
